2" Lustrous, Iridescent Hematite Crystal Cluster - Italy
This is an absolutely stunning, 2 wide cluster of naturally iridescent hematite crystals that formed in association with small quartz crystals. It comes from Bacino Mine on Elba Island, Italy, a site well known for the breathtaking hematite specimens it produces. These hematite crystals have exceptional luster and amazing iridescent properties, giving the specimen an eye-catching sparkle when rotated.
Hematite is a fairly common mineral, typically responsible for the red-brown colorations found in other minerals and rocks. Its chemical composition is Fe2O3, occasionally containing small amounts of titanium (variable formula (Fe,Ti)2O3). Much of the time, non-crystalline hematite specimens are the result of a transformation from limonite following loss of water.
