2.6" Fluorescet Calcite and Sphalerite on Lustrous Galena - Peru
This is an interesting cluster of lustrous galena crystals that formed in association with sphalerite and calcite crystals. It comes from the Huanzala Mine in Peru and the entire piece measures 2.6" wide.
Under shortwave UV light, the calcite exhibits vibrant orange fluorescence and a phosphorescent effect that lasts for a short period of time after the light is turned off. The small amounts of sphalerite fluoresce a beautiful red-orange as well.
