2.2" Vibrant Blue Cyanotrichite with Cubic Fluorite - China
These are beautiful, vibrant blue cyanotrichite aggregates that formed in association with cubic fluorite, collected from the Qinglong Mine in the Guizhou Province of China. This specimen has been mounted to a display stand.
Cyanotrichite is a hydrous copper aluminum sulfate with the chemical formula Cu4Al2SO4(OH)12 · 2H2O. It is a secondary mineral in copper oxidation zones and is primarily found as spherical aggregates of blue, radiating acicular crystals. Due to the fragility of cyanotrichite crystals, we suggest that specimens be placed in a safe location and handled carefully.
About Fluorite
Fluorite is a halide mineral comprised of calcium and fluorine, CaF2. The word fluorite is from the Latin fluo-, which means "to flow". In 1852 fluorite gave its name to the phenomenon known as fluorescence, or the property of fluorite to glow a different color depending upon the bandwidth of the ultraviolet light it is exposed to. Fluorite occurs commonly in cubic, octahedral, and dodecahedral crystals in many different colors. These colors range from colorless and completely transparent to yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, or black. Purples and greens tend to be the most common colors seen, and colorless, pink, and black are the rarest.
