2.2" Lustrous, Iridescent Hematite Crystal Cluster - Italy
This is an absolutely stunning, 2.2 wide cluster of naturally iridescent hematite crystals that formed in association with small quartz crystals. It comes from Bacino Mine on Elba Island, Italy, a site well known for the breathtaking hematite specimens it produces. These hematite crystals have exceptional luster and amazing iridescent properties, giving the specimen an eye-catching sparkle when rotated.
Hematite is a fairly common mineral, typically responsible for the red-brown colorations found in other minerals and rocks. Its chemical composition is Fe2O3, occasionally containing small amounts of titanium (variable formula (Fe,Ti)2O3). Much of the time, non-crystalline hematite specimens are the result of a transformation from limonite following loss of water.
