2.15" Lustrous Manganvesuvianite Crystal Cluster - South Africa
This is an outstanding cluster of lustrous manganvesuvianite (manganese-rich vesuvianite) crystals on a red-black matrix. There is some barite on the matrix as well. The entire specimen measures 2.15" wide and was collected from the N'Chwaning Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Fields of Kuruman, Africa.
Manganvesuvianite is a deep red-black, manganese-rich variety of normally greenish vesuvianite. These tetragonal silicate crystals are exemplified by the type locality from the N'Chwaning Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Fields of South Africa. Manganvesuvianite shares physical characteristics with vesuvianite--both appear as well-terminated prismatic crystals--but thier colors are significantly different.
