1.9" Black Tourmaline (Schorl) & Smoky Quartz - Namibia
Here is a beautiful association of black tourmaline (schorl) and smoky quartz, collected from the Erongo Mountains in Namibia. The black tourmaline crystal is protruding from one of the smoky quartz crystal's terminations, almost giving the specimen a unique scepter-like appearance.
Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Schorl, or black tourmaline, is the most common form of tourmaline, and has been used for everything from jewelry to piezoelectric guitar pickups.
