1.3" Gemmy Green Diopside in Calcite - Afghanistan

This is a gorgeous, 1.3" wide cluster of bright green, well-formed diopside crystals in a pocket of calcite. This specimen has been mounted with mineral tack for museum-quality display.

This specimen comes from the Ghunday talc deposit in the Nangarhar province of eastern Afghanistan. It is located on the north slopes of the Spin (Speen) Ghar mountain range, where metamorphic rocks including amphibole, gneiss, marble, quartzite, and marble are intruded by Cretaceous plutonic rocks.
