1.2" Hematite Crystals with Lizardite and Hydrotalcite - Norway

This is a 1.2" wide mineral specimen comprised of hematite crystals (pseudomorph after Ilmenite) that formed within a lizardite (yellow-green) and hydrotalcite (white) matrix. This beautiful specimen was collected from the Øvre Dypingdal Mine (Dypingdal Serpentine-magnesite deposit) of Buskerud, Norway.

Comes with an acrylic display case.

Hematite is a fairly common mineral, typically responsible for the red-brown colorations found in other minerals and rocks. Its chemical composition is Fe2O3, occasionally containing small amounts of titanium (variable formula (Fe,Ti)2O3). Much of the time, non-crystalline hematite specimens are the result of a transformation from limonite following loss of water.
