Brookite is a rare, naturally occurring mineral and one of the three main polymorphs of titanium dioxide (TiO₂), alongside rutile and anatase. It is typically found in a range of colors, from deep reddish-brown to dark brown, black, or even yellowish hues. Brookite crystals have a distinctive tabular or prismatic shape, often with sharp edges and striated surfaces that enhance their metallic, almost vitreous luster. It frequently forms in small, well-defined crystals that can be translucent or opaque, with the color and clarity varying based on iron content.

Brookite commonly forms in metamorphic rocks, particularly in alpine-type veins, and in association with minerals like quartz, anatase, and rutile. Its crystals are prized by collectors for their rarity and unique crystal habit, which differs significantly from the more common rutile and anatase forms of titanium dioxide.
