About the Lunar Meteorite, NWA 15482
NWA 15482 is a rare Lunar meteorite (troctolitic anorthositic breccia) that was discovered in Northwest Africa in 2022, and later purchased by Ziyao Wang from a dealer in Tan-Tan, Morocco. The find had a total mass of 80.6 grams. It's a breccia composed of lithic clasts and related crystalline debris dominated by anorthite and olivine with subordinate pigeonite and accessory low-Ti chromite, pentlandite, and pervasive secondary barite granules.

What Is A Lunar Troctolitic Anorthositic Breccia?
A lunar troctolitic anorthositic breccia is a type of moon rock with a unique and complex composition that reveals much about the Moon's geological history. This rock is a breccia, which means it consists of various fragments of other rocks fused together by intense impact events on the Moon’s surface. The main components in this breccia are troctolite and anorthosite.
Troctolite is an igneous rock made mostly of olivine and plagioclase, and it forms deep within the lunar crust, representing some of the Moon's earliest rocks. Anorthosite, another igneous rock, is primarily composed of plagioclase feldspar and makes up a significant part of the Moon's highlands, giving them a bright appearance when viewed from Earth. Together, these rock types in brecciated form tell a story of the Moon’s violent past, as impacts shattered and fused these materials, creating rocks that encapsulate pieces of the lunar crust and helping scientists study the early history and formation of the Moon’s surface.
