Rare 13.4" Polished Petrified Wood (Ginkgo) Round - Arizona
This is a very rare, 13.4" wide, polished section of petrified wood (Ginkgo) from the Chinle Formation of Apache County, Arizona. This is an incredibly rare variety of wood in the Chinle Formation. One side has been highly polished to a mirror-like finish. The black and grey areas contrast each other, highlighting the details of this rare specimen.
Ginkgo also known as Maidenhair Tree, is a genus of gymnosperms (evergreen) or plants whose seeds are not protected by fruit or other body. There is currently only one living species, Ginkgo biloba. In North America there was likely never a wide diversity of species, perhaps one or two species. Ginkgo has been used as a food source and medicinally for over a thousand years.
Comes with an acrylic stand.
