14" Unprepared Fossil Fish (Diplomystus) - Green River Frmation
This is an unprepared fossil fish (Diplomystus) from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. It appears to be around 13-15" in length and is centered on a 20.5 x 18" slab of rock.
While the fish does appear to be complete, as with all unprepared fossils there are no guarantees. The waviness of the vertebral column indicates there is some disarticulation of the vertebrae. You don't know what will be under the surface. This came out the bottom cap layer. The rock is quite hard and time consuming to prepare but has the best preservation of all of the layers.
