Pair Of Unusual Barycrinus Crinoids - Indiana
This is a piece from the famous Witherspoon Quarry near Crawfordsville, Indiana. It contains a pair of very 3D, and odd looking Barycrinus stellatus crinoid fossils. The matrix is 3x2.3" and the larger crinoid crown measures 1.8" The quality of preparation on this fossil is exquisite - using skillful air-abrasion techniques under a stereo microscope.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
It is believed that crinoids from the Ramp Creek Limestone were buried in sediment from nearby deltas during storms. The resulting siltstone deposits are soft enough that fossils can be extracted in exquisite, three-dimensional relief.
