Plate Of Four Fossil Insects (Weevils & Others) - France
This is a plate of two fossil true weevils (order Coleoptera, family Curculionidae) and a third unidentified insect, collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. The largest weevil measures .45" wide. The whole plate is beautifully detailed. Both halves of each split are present on this specimen: each half is glued to the largest slab of shale.
This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
There are two repaired cracks through this plate.
