Two Complete Crinoid Fossils With Trilobite - Morocco
This a pair of rusty-red, complete crinoid fossils featuring intact crowns, long stems and a ball-shaped holdfasts. It is quite unusual to find crinoid fossils complete from the crown on down to the holdfast. There is also a complete trilobite and a couple of partial trilobites on the piece.
The red coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite which originally preserved the fossil. The rock measures 9.5 x 9.5"

Crinoids, sometimes commonly referred to as sea lilies, are animals, not plants. They are echinoderms related to starfish, sea urchins, and brittle stars. Many crinoid traits are like other members of their phylum; such traits include tube feet, radial symmetry, a water vascular system, and appendages in multiples of five (pentameral). They first appeared in the Ordovician (488 million years ago) and some species are still alive today.
