Three Ordovician Brittle Stars (Ophiura) - Morocco
This plate features three fossil brittle stars (Ophiura) from the Kataoua Formation of Morocco. They are Ordovician in age, or approximately 450 million years old. The largest brittle star is 1.6" wide and the arm and partial body of a fourth brittle star can be seen along one edge. The orange coloration is natural and due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.
