These are three beautifully preserved fossil flies (order Diptera), collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. The largest fly measures .49" wide and both show detailed leg, wing, and body preservation. A partial fish can even be found on the reverse side.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
