14.7" Triassic, Fossil Ray-Finned Fish (Paralepidotus) - Austria
This is a beautifully-preserved fossil ray-finned fish of the species Paralepidotus ornatus. It was collected from the Upper Triassic age Alaunian Seefeld Member of Hallein, Austria. The scale and bone preservation of this fish are phenomenal, with even the smallest details visible to the naked eye. It's nicely centered on a slab of limestone that has been backed with fiberglass and resin. There is restoration along the dorsal edge of this fish, interrupting a portion of the dorsal fin. This restoration is a result of the rock shattering along the point of breakage. There are multiple repaired cracks through the rock.
