Nicely Preserved 3" Scytalocrinus Crinoid - Indiana
This is a nicely preserved 3" long Scytalocrinus decadactylus crinoid collected at the famous Witherspoon Quarry near Crawfordsville, Indiana. There is also a small Histocrinus coreyi preserved just to the right of the stem. This piece was meticulously cleaned under microscope using air abrasives.
It is believed that crinoids from the Ramp Creek Limestone were buried in sediment from nearby deltas during storms. The resulting siltstone deposits are soft enough that fossils can be extracted in exquisite, three-dimensional relief.
