Multiple Devonian Ammonoids (Anetoceras) on Rock - Morocco
This is a 12.1" wide specimen that contains a complete and four partial, Early Devonian ammonites (Anetoceras), quarried in the Anti-Atlas Region of Morocco. The ammonites have been painstakingly prepared from the hard limestone matrix that they were found. There is also the head of a trilobite that can be found exposed towards the center of the rock.
The largest ammonoid cephalopod is 2.9" wide.
Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus.
