Multiple Devonian Ammonoids (Anetoceras) on Rock - Morocco

This is an 11" wide specimen that contains two and a half Early Devonian ammonites (Anetoceras), quarried in the Anti-Atlas Region of Morocco. The ammonites have been painstakingly prepared from the hard limestone matrix that they were found.

The largest ammonoid cephalopod is 2.8" wide.

Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus.
