Metacanthina Trilobite With Micro-Fossils - Top Quality Specimen
This is a very special specimen from the Lhandar Formation of Morocco. It is a Metacanthina issoumourensis trilobite centered on a rock covered in micro-fossils including gastropods, corals and brachiopods. In addition to the fantastic preparation on the trilobite, the micro-fossils have been individually exposed using air abrasives under microscope. This process took dozens of hours of work. Rock entire piece of limestone is 6.2 x 4.9" and the trilobite in the center is about 2.2" long.
About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
