Massive 7" Fossil Sperm Whale Tooth - Georgia

This is an absolutely massive, Miocene aged, fossil sperm whale tooth found in Georgia. It was found associated with fossil shark teeth including those of the Megalodon. These whales would have been a food source for the gigantic Megalodon sharks living at the same time. The tooth is very solid and is 7 inches in length, one of the largest specimens I've personally seen. It weighs nearly 1 1/2 lbs.

While the tooth came from a sperm whale, identifying it to the genus level is impossible. This is because there were 14 known genera of Sperm Whales living in the past compared to 2 today. The size and shape of teeth between these types overlap significantly.
