Large Fossil Sycamore Leaf - Green River Formation
This is a large Eocene aged fossil leaf from Platanus wyomingensis a sycamore tree. The leaf is nearly 6 inches tall not including the stem and centered on a one foot square piece of matrix. Large complete leafs like this are desirable fossils to collectors. The one has a repaired crack in the matrix but is otherwise a beautiful, nicely colored leaf.
It comes the Green River Formation and the area of Bonanza, Utah. This is the same formation that is famous for producing well preserved fish fossils, but a different member and location.
