Large 3.4" Pyritized Dactylioceras Ammonite

This is a classic British ammonite of the genus Dactylioceras. This specimen is very large for these ammonites and is heavily replaced by iron pyrite. You can see the shine and feel the weight of this pyrite replacement when you hold the ammonite in your hand. These well preserved ammonites are Jurassic in age and are found in hard concretions that must be split open to reveal the fossil.
