Large Hammatoceras Ammonite Display Piece
This is an exceptional display piece with a huge 9 inch wide Hammatoceras ammonite mounted on a sculpted block of matrix along with 4 Pseudogrammoceras ammonites. The Pseudogrammoceras range from about 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches wide. The entire display stands 19 inches high and weighs nearly 25 pounds. It makes for a very impressive display.
These ammonites were quarried in the Rhône-Alpes region of France and are Lower Jurassic in age, approximately 180 million years old. These ammonites are very infrequently seen on the commercial market compared to those from other countries such as Madagascar and Morocco.
While it is not a natural association that ammonites all of the ammonites were quarried from the same layer and remounted on an artificial matrix to create the display.
