Fossil Sumac Leaf - Green River Formation
This is an Eocene aged fossil leaf from Rhus nigricans, a sumac. The leaf is 2.4" long (including the stem) on a piece of shale matrix. It is beautifully preserved with crisp edges and a nice dark color. Fine details are easily seen.
It comes the Green River Formation and the area in Uintah County, Utah. This is the same formation that is famous for producing well preserved fish fossils, but a different member and location. Includes a Riker mount display case.
