Fossil Redwood Cone - Cache Creek, BC
Here is a fossil code of the Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia occidentalis. It is from the Eocene aged McAbee deposits of British Columbia. These deposits were formed as part of a shallow lake which beautifully preserved plant material in a fine layer of silt. As of about a year ago this locality is no accessible to collecting and material is becoming hard to come by.
