Fossil Millipede (Diplopoda) In Amber

This is an amazingly detailed, fossil millipede (class Diplopoda) preserved in dark amber from the Bitterfeld brown coal mine in Saxony, Germany. Bitterfeld amber from this mine was originally believed to be only 20-22 million years old (Miocene), though analysis of animal inclusions revealed that the amber was most likely genuine baltic, but had been redeposited in a Miocene deposit.

As a reminder, most inclusions in this amber are extremely small so magnification will be needed to make out much detail. Included with your order is a physical photo of the specimen, and we will also email you a high resolution digital copy.
