2.1" Fossil Insect Cluster - Green River Formation, Utah
This is a fossil insect cluster from the Green River Formation, Uintah County, Utah. This specimen contains wasps (order Hymenoptera) and flies (order Diptera. Many of these flies that appear to be larvae are likely Robber flies (family Asilidae) that lost their wings/legs.
While this formation is best known for well preserved fossil fish found in Wyoming, other sections of the formation contain a very diverse insect fauna.
