Fossil Ant-Like Stone Beetle and True Midge in Baltic Amber
This is a detailed, 44 million year old fossil ant-like stone beetle (order Coleoptera - subfamily Scydmaeninae) and true midge (order Diptera - family Chironomidae) preserved in Baltic amber. This true midge is about 3.5mm wide including appendages.
