Exceptional, 4.5" Crinoid Plate (Gaurocrinus) - Quebec

This is a rare and exceptional offering, it's a beautiful plate of very colorful crinoid (Gaurocrinus) fossils from the Vaureal Formation of Quebec. The piece measures 4.5 x 3.4" and both the presevation and preparation is exceptional. The fossils are very colorful, with purple and orange hues. This was part of a small pocket that was found and I believe is the last piece that has not be sold, so it's vey possible you will not see a similar piece for sale again. It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Crinoids, sometimes commonly referred to as sea lilies, are animals, not plants. They are echinoderms related to starfish, sea urchins, and brittle stars. Many crinoid traits are like other members of their phylum; such traits include tube feet, radial symmetry, a water vascular system, and appendages in multiples of five (pentameral). They first appeared in the Ordovician (488 million years ago) and some species are still alive today.
