Double Cleoniceras Ammonite Specimen - 5"

This is a natural, double specimen of the 110 million year old ammonite, Cleoniceras. It was quarried near Mahajanga Province, Madagascar and the exterior has been polished. On the larger example the shell has an iridescent shine to it, while on the smaller ammonite, the exterior shell has been polished off to reveal the distinctive, "oak leaf" shaped suture pattern. The suture pattern on ammonites is one of the defining features used to identify the genus and species. The larger ammonite is 5 inches wide while the smaller one is 2.7 inches.
