Cluster Of Iridescent Scaphites Ammonites - South Dakota
This is a concretion (nodule) from the Cretaceous aged Fox Hills Formation full of Scaphites ammonite fossils. There are 9 ammonites exposed, many retaining their iridescent shell which shines with brilliant green and pink hues when viewed in the right light. The hard concretion has been prepared using airscribes to expose these ammonites in a displayable manner.
The largest ammonite is 2.4" across and the entire concretion is 8x8", weighing about 12 lbs.
