Black 1.58" Tyrannosaur Tooth - Montana

This is dark black Tyrannosaurid tooth from the Two Medicine Formation (Judith River Group) of Montana. This formation is approximately 70 million years old, or about 5 million years old than the Hell Creek Formation which produces T-Rex.

There are three described Tyrannosaurs from the Two Medicine Formation (Judith River Group), Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three Tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genre because they are so similar. I've linked to the research paper below.

Morphometry of the teeth of western North American tyrannosaurids and its applicability to quantitative classification

This tooth is 1.58" long with beautiful enamel, minimal feeding wear and EXCELLENT SERRATIONS. It's simply a beautiful Tyrannosaur tooth. There are several crack repairs where the tooth was glued back together and a section at the base of the tooth which was restored. These areas are highlighted in the last photo in the series.
