Beautiful 2.9" Deshayesites Ammonite In Argyllite

This is a fantastic 2.9" wide Deshayesites imitator ammonite fossil still partially embedded in the argyllite matrix it was found. It was quarried from the Volga River region of Russia and is Lower Cretaceous, Aptian Stage, or approximately 120 million years old. The argyllite around it has been beautifully scupted and polished. You can see the cross section of another ammonite fossil exposed on the surface of the argyllite.
