Spectacular Crinoid Association - 11 Species
This is a spectacular crinoid association from the famous Crawfordsville crinoid locality collected by Tom Witherspoon There are 12 crinoids on this plate and a starfish representing 10 different species. The centerpiece being a large Platycrinites saffordi which is nearly 8" long including the distinctive spiraling stem.
The other crinoid species include Macrocrinnus mundulus, Gilbertsocrinus dispansus, Cyathocrinites multibrachiatus, Eretmocrinus granuliferus, Hylodecrinus briareus, Pachyiocrinus aequalis, Agaricocrinus americanus, Actinocrinites gibsoni, and Onychocrinus ulrichi. The starfish is a Onychaster flexilis. Numbers associated with the crinoid names are on the back of the plate for identification.
The preparation on this piece is spectacular and it represents many dozens of hours of work by one of the best preparators around.
