9.2" Polished, Fossil Coral Section - Indonesia

This is a large 9.2" polished, fossil coral from Sumatra, Indonesia. The polishing allows the beautiful, fossilized structure of the coral heads to be seen. This specimen is polished to a gloss finish on two sides and stands nicely on its own.

This specimen comes with an acrylic display stand.

These corals are approximately 20 million years old and are the remains of ancient reefs thrust up into the mountains by the collisions of tectonic plates. As these corals fossilized the original organic material was replaced by silica, iron, manganese and other minerals.
