.89" Serrated, Tyrannosaur Tooth in Sandstone - Judith River Formation
This is a very nice .89" Tyrannosaur tooth that has been partially exposed from the rock it was found in, from the Judith River Formation of Montana. This specimen also contains various shell and bone fragments throughout the sandstone.
The exposed portion of this tooth displays nice serration and enamel preservation. There are some spots of minor chipping to the enamel, as well as a crack through the middle of the tooth.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
