8.8" Hadrosaur (Edmontosaurus) Femur End (Distal) - Montana

This is a, 8.8" long Hadrosaur (Edmontosaurus annectens) tibia end (distal) from the right leg, collected from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana. It preserved nicely with little to no warping of the bone. The condyles are well defined and haven't undergone too much weathering which often occurs at the points of articulation (epiphyses). A very unique and eye catching display piece!

This tibia end has been mounted with glue to a wood display stand.

The diaphysis of the bone required some crack repair and spots of gap fill restoration where the bone crumbled away. There are two repaired cracks between the condyles that wrap around the lateral/medial side of each condyle. Each of these required some gap fill restoration.

Because of its age and sedimentary composition, the Hell Creek Formation has become one of the most paleontologically studied areas in the world. 158 genera of animals and 64 genera of plants are known from the formation and new discoveries are made frequently. In addition to Tyrannosaurs, Ceratopsids, and Hadrosaurs, the formation has yielded remains of amphibians, reptiles, lizards, snakes and turtles, fish and sharks, avian and non-avian dinosaurs, and mammals. The Hell Creek Formation gives the most complete understanding of the environment just before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction.
