8.7" Triassic Coelacanth (Piveteauia) Fossil - Pos/Neg
This is a nicely preserved, Lower Triassic (247 million year old) Coelacanth fossil from the Middle Sankamenna Formation of Madagascar. Its preserved inside of a concretion that has been broken open (both halves are included) and is 8.7" in length. There are many different types of fossil fish found in these nodules, but the Coelacanths are one of the rarer components of the fauna. The fish has incredible detail including fins, scales and the bony head structure. There are a few repaired cracks across the body of the fossil. A premium specimen for collectors and the casual enthusiast alike.
