8.7" Insane, Spiny, Undescribed Scabrella Trilobite - Morocco
This is an incredible, giant, spiny Scabrella trilobite from Issoumour, Morocco. Despite numerous fake, composited and heavily restored specimens of this giant, porcupine-like trilobite finding their way onto the market, only a handful complete specimens have ever been found. This one is real, is NOT a composite and is very well prepared. There is less than 5% shell restoration along repaired cracks and only a few of the smallest of the free-standing spines have been restored. It measures a massive, 8.7" in length.
About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
