.72" Cretaceous Fossil Turtle (Toxochelys) Skull Bone - Kansas
This is a .72" late Cretaceous aged fossil skull bone of a marine turtle (Toxochelys sp.). It was found in the Smoky Hill Chalk of the Niobrara Formation in Kansas, a very fossiliferous marine formation. This is likely the basiooccipital bone of the skull, which would form part of the eye socket in life. There is wear at the points of contact with neighboring bones.
