7.2" Permian Aged Fish Fossil - Paramblypterus
This is a nicely preserved, 7.2" long specimen of the Lower Permian aged Paleoniscoid fish, Paramblypterus duvernoyi. The black scales, shine against the grey shale matrix. Paleoniscoids were the first ray-finned fishes. The quarries were these fish come from are no longer being collected and this is one of the better examples that I have seen. There is a repaired crack running through the plate.
