7.2" Dinosaur (Camptosaurus?) Metatarsal (Foot Bone) - Wyoming

This is a 7.2" long dinosaur (Camptosaurus?) metatarsal, collected from the famous Bone Cabin Quarry in Wyoming. It's in excellent condition with relatively little repair or restoration.

Restoration on this specimen is in the form of crack repair and minor gap fill. There is a repaired crack towards the distal end of the of the diaphysis. The gap fill restoration is at the middle of the diaphysis and is about an inch wide. This restoration is well done and is best viewed under ultraviolet light.

The Bone Cabin Quarry has historical significance because it was discovered in 1897 and excavated by the American Museum of Natural History from 1898 through 1905. It lies near the famous Como Bluff and got its name from a nearby sheepherder's cabin built entirely out of fossil dinosaur bones. This quarry now lies on private land, where it continues to be excavated.
