7.1" Stegosaurus Cervical Vertebra On Stand - Colorado

Stegosaurus, despite its popularity is one of the rarer dinosaurs in the Morrison Formation with only a handful of skeletons being found. This is a beautifully preserved cervical (neck) vertebrae of a Stegosaurus collected from a private quarry East of Dinosaur, Colorado.

It measures 7.1" tall, 6.6" long and comes mounted on a custom metal stand. It was found in a in a hard sandstone layer, so they are remarkably well preserved, and required very little restoration, other than some small gap fills in the cracks.

Stegosaurus is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs in the world due to its distinctive tail spikes and plates along its back. So far, 3 species have been described from the Upper Morrison Formation, and it has been in the news quite a bit lately due to "Sophie" the Stegosaurus at the London Natural History Museum. Stegosaurus is the state fossil of Colorado.
