.67" Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) Tooth In Sandstone - New Mexico
This is a very well preserved .67" Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) tooth that is partially embedded in the sandstone in which it was found. This tooth is well-preserved with good enamel and minimal repair. The tooth is finely striated, slender and conical, much like modern crocodilian teeth. This specimen is mounted to a display stand for optimal display.
Phytosaurids looked similar to modern day crocodiles with some minor differences. The primary being that their nostrils were higher up the head instead of at the very front of the snout. They attained lengths of 20 feet and were certainly one of the dominant aquatic predators of the time.
