6" Cluster of Ichthyosaurus Vertebrae & Ribs - Whitby, England
This is a gorgeous cluster of Ichthyosaur (Ichthyosaurus sp.) vertebrae, processes, rib bones and various other bones that have been partially prepped free from the rock they were found in. Much of the rock has been left behind for presentation purposes. It was collected from the Upper Lias - Falciferum Zone of North Yorkshire in England.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
Ichthyosaurs ("Fish Lizard") was a giant marine reptile which thrived from much of the Mesozoic era. They evolved in the mid Triassic from a group of unidentified land reptiles which transition back into the water. This line evolved in parallel to the ancestors of todays dolphins and whales, something known as convergent evolution.
