6.4" Theropod Dinosaur Vertebra - Isle of Wight, England
This is a rare, 6.4" wide vertebra of a Lower Cretaceous age Theropod dinosaur. It was collected from the Wealden Clays of the Wessex Formation on the Isle of Wight. One of the transverse processes remained intact which is uncommon for vertebrae from this formation. There are multiple repaired cracks through this specimen, including one through the centrum, one through each pedicle and one through the left (anatomically) transverse process. The rock has been removed from within the neural canal, exposing the cavity through which the spinal cord would have occupied.
There are several theropod dinosaurs that have been discovered from this formation, so accurately identifying an isolated vertebra like this down to the genus is difficult.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
