5" Fossil Non-Biting Midge (Chironomidae) Cluster - France

This is a plate of small fossil non-biting midges (order Diptera, family Chironomidae), collected from an Oligocene-aged (Stampien/Rupelian) shale deposit at Mine de Gaude in Manosque, France. The midge has been covered by a thin sealant to highlight its detail.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
